Chapter 9

I wonder why Ro isn’t answering her phone? That’s not like her at all. Unless she is helping a client or on a call. Kay wanted to call Rosalie and fill her in on the details of her dinner with Cameron. But, her best friend hadn’t picked up. Oh well, I guess I’ll try her later.

Little did Kay know, Rosalie wasn’t prepared to talk with her at the moment or any moment for a while. She was still trying to process what she had heard at the restaurant. She was hurt and upset and just couldn’t believe that Kay had said that to Cameron. She had just met her! Why would she talk to a near stranger about something between them? It was their friendship and not up for discussion. Rosalie was going to go into work early and to get her mind off of Kay and Cameron

Kay tried calling Rosalie a couple of more times and sent a few texts. She then decided to wait and see if Ro would call her back. If she didn’t get a response by the end of the night, she was going to go by and check on her in person. In the meantime, she spent the day brainstorming a new book idea and doing some research. Her phone buzzed with a text notification. It was George. He wanted to know if she would like to meet for lunch. She thought about it and decided to say yes.

“Hey there, you!” George got up from the table and gave Kay a kiss on the cheek.

“Hey there.” Kay returned the kiss and was truly happy to see George.

“I’m so glad you decided to meet me. And, for the record, this isn’t a date, just lunch.” He smiled and winked at Kay.

“I appreciate that. But I insist on buying my own lunch.”

“Well, I think since I invited you for lunch, I should do the honors. But I’m a smart man and know better than to argue with a beautiful woman.”

This made Kay blush. They spent the next hour chit-chatting. George filled her in on some of the funny moments he had at his practice. There was the teenager who thought his dental assistant was a supermodel. The teenage patient had just gotten his wisdom teeth taken out and was still loopy from the anesthesia. Then there was the grandmother who came in more often than she needed. She was notorious for flirting with George, especially after she heard he had been a part of Kay’s contest. “Somehow she thought that going out with you makes me a celebrity. So, she has been coming in with a mysterious toothache.” This made them both laugh. “So, what’s new with you? How have your other dates gone?”

“You haven’t listened to the morning show?” Kay was surprised.

“No. I thought about it, but I didn’t want it to skew my view of the other folks. I mean, I know that we will continue to be friends, but if there was a chance…” George let his thoughts wander.
